About The Owner

Angela Gordon Mills grew up in Laurens, SC and was very active in music and theatre as a child. She was in chorus, band and drama in both high school and college. She also participated in shows at the Laurens County Community Theatre and The Carousel Playhouse. After moving to Charlotte in 2002, Angela honed her business skills as a Store Manager for Music and Arts Center but education was never far from her mind. After leaving Music and Arts Center, Angela worked as a director for tutoring programs that supported children throughout NC while teaching music and theatre in the evenings. In July 2012, she decided to venture into business on her own and thus came Spotlight Performing Arts Academy. Angela describes the opening of Spotlight as "meant to be". Her goal is to make Spotlight a place where everyone can come and follow their dreams.

Angela has received her Masters degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, a BA in Vocal Performance and Arts Management from Newberry College and a Masters Certification in Songwriting and Music Business from Berklee College of Music. In addition to operating Spotlight, Angela has taught Chorus, Music Appreciation and Theatre at the high school and elementary level. Angela loves to continue to perform whenever she can.

Angela has also  volunteered her time to represent the town of Mint Hill on the Arts and Science Council's South and East Advisory Board and as a script reviewer for the American Association of Community Theatre. Recently Angela has been honored to be named one of Charlotte Media Groups 50 Most Dynamic Women for 2022 and 2023.
